Chiropractic on Immune System

As you may well know, there has been a lot of positive talk about health and chiropractic in the media. You may have heard the recent study that patients under chiropractic care had an increase in CD-4 count (this means that chiropractic care has been shown to strengthen your immune system). Or you may have seen the articles published about the positive effects that chiropractic has had on asthma. There are many research articles that prove what chiropractors have been saying for many years about the health benefits of chiropractic. This is why the country’s top hospitals have chiropractors that they have on staff or refer their patients to. This is also why the medical profession is embracing chiropractic and its benefits.

However, there is confusion about chiropractic and its role. Many people think that chiropractic is only about treating neck pain or low back pain. It is important to understand that chiropractors do not treat pain or disease process. What chiropractors DO, is look for bones in your back that have shifted out of place, causing the delicate spinal nerves to be pressed. This nerve pressure leads to something and that something is neck pain, low back pain, headaches, allergies, sinus problems, etc. It is important to note that you do not have to have pain only in your neck or back in order to have nerve pressure.I had a patient today who was having arm pain and she went to all her doctors and physical therapists. They prescribed drugs to numb the pain, and the physical therapist did stretching of her shoulder, but nothing seemed to work. She was giving up on finding relief and thought that she was going to have to live with the pain for the rest of her life. She came to me and we found that because of an accident that happened 20 years ago, along with improper care, she had nerve pressure that was causing the constant pain. This accident caused her bones, over time, to move and pinch down on the delicate spinal nerves. This nerve pressure lead to her constant arm pain. After a series of chiropractic adjustments, the bone was no longer pinching the nerve and the shoulder pain was gone.

This story relays the importance of getting your spine checked for spinal problems, also known as vertebral subluxations. These subluxations lead to nerve pressure, which will cause you pain or discomfort, and ultimately will keep you from doing everyday activities you enjoy.
